INSPIRATION BOARD: STAR SPANGLED BANNER
In light of Independence day, we're fixated on quite literal translations that commemorate our sweet land of liberty. What more straightforward approach to celebrating the fourth than to wave—er, wear—the star spangled banner that symbolizes the US of A?
Before we get into the freedom flag's turn in the spotlight this season, we must note that our flagship isn't the only trend-right banner. Thanks to McQueen and other (many) fashionable Brits, the union jack is often the object of fashion fixation. A quick disclaimer—we just don't want anyone feeling left out. But inspired by our nation's holiday looming a few days away, we took notice of the red white and blue stars and stripes that squeezed its way into collections like Balmain, Moschino and Betsey Johnson. Kate Bosworth caused a stir (and subsequent selling-out of) in the Topshop American flag tank she wore at Coachella this year. There's something very summery about the iconic symbol as she proved. It may not translate well to go into full on Americana overload, but this 4th, consider this your hall pass to wear your flag with stylish grungy edge—and pride.
